What We Know So Far About SHIB the Metaverse

Popular cryptocurrency Shiba Inu is making the case for real utility with its latest product rollout SHIB the metaverse. MetaNews takes a look at what is known so far about the upcoming project.

SHIB the metaverse is a 3D immersive world born from the Shiba Inu cryptocurrency. Shiba Inu began life as a memecoin, with its community of followers often referring to it as the “Dogecoin killer.” Dogecoin is the popular rival memecoin, popularized by the internet’s Shiba Inu meme, and later promoted by SpaceX billionaire Elon Musk.

The project has since moved on from its memecoin origins with a whole ecosystem of products including NFTs, a token exchange called Shibaswap, the Layer-2 blockchain Shibarium, and, of course, SHIB the metaverse.

SHIB the metaverse is being created with Unreal Engine, the 3D games design tool built by Epic Games, the studio most famous for the worldwide gaming hit Fortnite. Besides Fortnite, Unreal Engine is powering a host of other next-generation titles including Tomb Raider, The Matrix Awakens, Redfall, and the upcoming The Witcher 4.

In July 2022, it was announced that Shiba Inu had hired The Third Floor (TTF) to help it design and create its metaverse. TTF has a host of high-profile special effects credits to its name including Hollywood productions such as Star Wars and Marvel. Recently it worked PREY, the latest movie in the long-running Predator franchise.

The project’s Metaverse Advisor is Marcie Jastrow, a former alum of Paramount and Technicolor Creative Studios. Sherri Cuono is the project’s Technology Advisor.

Early presentations

SHIB the metaverse is still in its production phase but there have already been some public previews of the metaverse.

As MetaNew previously reported SHIB the metaverse featured at the SXSW festival earlier this month.

The first SHIB the metaverse trailer was showcased at the SXSW event, displaying sumptuous 3D graphics of a zen location that Shiba Inu refers to as the WAGMI temple. WAGMI is cryptospeak for the positive maxim “we are going to make it.”

Project advisor Marcie Jastrow spoke passionately about the project during a panel discussion held at the event explaining that the Shiba Inu community reflects what a metaverse “really should be and could be.”

“What if you had a community that actually really cared about the metaverse, that actually wanted to be in this world?” asked Jastrow before adding, “you could build a metaverse specifically for a group of people who want to have a place to interact, socialize and monetize.”

For Jastrow that community is the ShibArmy, a collective of fanatical Shiba Inu fans and grassroots promoters who are perhaps the project’s greatest single asset.

Coming soon?

Despite being fairly far along in its development phase, SHIB the metaverse is not yet ready to launch just yet.

The project is selling plots of virtual land within its virtual realm and asking interested parties to partner with it for development. This suggests that the long-term plan for SHIB the metaverse is to compete with metaverse projects such as Decentraland and Sandbox.
